Het is eerder vildan’s keuze dan de mijne, ik vond sommige andere schilderijen
van Ingouf beter maar dit heeft ook wel wat, met die vertakte benen en dat
jaloerse varken op de achtergrond. Ben benieuwd hoe het er in het echt
uitziet.

Voorjaar 2008: Karavanserai komt uit

Beste lezer(s),

In het voorjaar van 2008 verschijnt mijn dichtbundel ‘Karavanserai’ bij Uitgeverij Nieuw Amsterdam:

De bundel zal dan in de boekhandel te verkrijgen zijn of via de webwinkel van Nieuw Amsterdam.

Mensen die graag een gesigneerd exemplaar willen kunnen dit in de zomer van 2008 komen ophalen in Istanbul. Ik denk eraan om voor die gelegenheid een klein festival te organiseren hier op het eiland, mede in het kader van de ‘Openlucht Bibliotheek’ die wij hier hebben opgericht. Ik wil dat dan echter wel een ludiek karakter geven dus moet er nog even over nadenken.

Mensen die interesse hebben mee te doen met zo’n ludiek festival in Istanbul kunnen zich tot aan het voorjaar 2008 via dit email adres inschrijven.

Uiteraard kunt u ook vanaf voorjaar 2008 mijn bundel in de boekhandel kopen of deze via internet bestellen. Want zo mooi is mijn handtekening eerlijk gezegd nu ook weer niet. Maar Istanbul gelukkig wel en ik ben niet de enige die dat zal vinden…

Compleet album van Vacuüm online

Ik had het laatst er al over dat vele juweeltjes uit de jaren 80 in het niets dreigen verdwijnen, als lichtend voorbeeld voor het feit dat die ‘canonisering’ theorie grotendeels op onzin gebaseerd is. Ook goede zaken worden door de mensheid vergeten, raken in het slop, verdwijnen.

Een van de beste Nederpunk platen, bijvoorbeeld. Het album ‘Feest’ van de Utrechtse/Emmense formatie Vacuüm. Een plaat die zijn tijd ver vooruit was, omdat in de tijd dat deze plaat gemaakt was nog geen enkele band in Nederland met behulp van een computer (een casio in dit geval) muziek maakte. Daarnaast ook gewoon een prima plaat met goede teksten en goede muzikale opbouw.

Om te voorkomen dat deze muziek in de vergetelheid raakt heb ik in samenwerking met Bart FM Droog, die JP Kuil wist te contacteren via email, nu toestemming van hen om de hele plaat online te zetten ter behoud van een belangrijk stuk Nederlandse muziekgeschiedenis:

In de aarde wroeten effectiever dan Prozac

Britse onderzoekers hebben aangetoond dat ‘goedaardige’ bacteriën die in de grond voorkomen de hersencellen kunnen aanzetten tot de productie van serotonine, het hormoon dat de stemming reguleert en waarvan een tekort wordt geassocieerd met depressiviteit.

Een onderzoeksteam onder leiding van Chris Lowry, van de Universiteit van Bristol, meldde onlangs in Neuroscience dat aan muizen toegediend Mycobacterium vaccae (M. vaccae) een immuunreactie opriep die leidde tot het vrijkomen van serotonine in de hersenen. Een hoog serotoninegehalte kan stress verminderen. De met de bacteriën geïnjecteerde muizen gedroegen zich alsof ze een antidepressivum hadden gekregen.

Eenieder die dus last heeft van depressieve gevoelens kan het beste in de eigen tuin met de blote handen flink in de aarde gaan wroeten. Het onderzoek vermeld niet hoe betreffende bacterien precies in de hersenpan belanden, maar dat lijkt me verder weinig lastig te bewerkstelligen: flink snuiven, of net als in de Marquez verhalen aarde gaan eten.

Ik las eens dat sjamanen depressieve of gestoorde mensen voor een paar dagen levend laten begraven. Die methode heeft dus van nu af aan zijn wortels in de wetenschap.
