De Helmondse Vloek

Author: Je hebt mensen die hun afkomst verloochenen. Als je in Helmond geboren bent is dat natuurlijk niet zo vreemd, want dan ben je geboren onder de Helmondse Vloek. Ik ben zo iemand. Geboren in Helmond, tijdlang in Mierlo en Eindhoven gewoond en terug gegaan naar Helmond op zoek naar de vloek die op mij rustte. 10 jaar lang heb ik ertegen gevochten. Toen ben ik, bevrijd van ziel, naar Istanboel verhuisd.
Een ander die is geboren onder de Helmondse Vloek is wonderkind Jimmy Rosenberg. Jimmy is een van de beste gitaristen van Nederland. Zeer jong al zeer talentvol:

Tuig van de richel, dat is het. Een overhypede film met een totaal uitgekauwd concept als ‘Pan’s labyrinth’ krijgt een 9.6 op Rotten Tomatoes, terwijl een prachtfilm als ‘The Perfume’ het van de heren critici met een 5.6 moet doen.
Gelukkig maar dat onze critici De Leuze, Nietzsche, Rembrandt en Lucebert eerst bellen voor ze hun mening durven geven.

Paar schilderijen
Ergens rond 1998, denk ik, heb ik een jaar of anderhalf geprobeerd schilder te worden. Dat kwam zomaar ineens opzetten vanuit het niets. Ik was ineens volledig geobsedeerd met het idee dat ik schilder ging worden. Ik leefde destijds van een uitkering en die ging volledig op aan schildermaterialen. Ik schilderde vaak ook erg groot, op van die houten platen die ik bij de stort ging halen. Ik had geen atelier dus binnen de kortste keren zat alles in mijn woning van onder tot boven onder de verfspatters. Dit tot gruwel van de woninginspecteur die mij later dwong, op dreiging van uitzetting, die sloopwoning waarin ik woonde te renoveren. Dat waren nog eens tijden. Uiteraard was ik geen geweldig schilder. In zo’n tijdsbestek kunnen alleen zeer getalenteerde mensen iets neerzetten wat echt bijzonder is. Toch vind ik het af en toe schattig te kijken naar de (matig van kwaliteit) foto’s die ik nog van al deze inmiddels verdwenen of vernietigde werken heb gemaakt.
