Gemini is the 3rd astrological sign of the wheel. It signifies the first contact of the universal plant with the air after having grown a root in Taurus. The Gemini’s symbol is often a child. It signifies the playfulness of youth, the first contact with the sun, the growth into the air. Gemini is rules by mercury and is the first air sign. Becaise of that Gemini are people who will most often get thoughts without being able to properly reflect on them. Thoughts come to them as ‘divine inspiration’, so to speak, and they express them without balancing them out in their minds first, which is a process that starts later on in the cycle, with Libra. Because Gemini is the start of air, these people are usually controlled by their thoughts rather than the thoughts being controlled by them. This often makes them appear rather unbalanced to onlookers, and rightly so, since Gemini essentially is an unbalanced sign.

To a Gemini everything is play. He has a touch of the divine mercury, which makes that the sign in its higher form sometimes produces Genius people. But for the most part, and especially in its lower forms, Gemini’s will be rather stern and attacking moralists, fingerpointers, who are essentially the slaves of their own ideas since they lack the power of relativity or reflection. In the later phase of Gemini, after 20 degrees into the sign, the influence of Cancer becomes apparant and the water creates the first reflections. That’s why later Gemini’s suffer less from this lack of reflection power.

The Gemini typically is a person who can’t seem to make up his mind. They also usually will be people that will have a hard time making it on their own. Their formula is that of the Lovers card in the Tarot, meaning that they seek to conquer reality by uniting with an opposite. That’s why they will often choose relationships with people that seem rather unfitting. They have a certain schizophrenia in their character but its not a ‘evil’ sort of schizophrenia, more like a helpless kind. But one of their irritating sides is usually the need they feel to pose as a teacher to others. They might be awkward, unpublished poets telling everyone how to write poetry, because they can’t connect these ideas to the reality of their situation: they can’t reflect.

The career of a Gemini

For reasons given above, the Gemini will feel most comfortable in jobs where they are able to play unrestrictively with their mental ideas.  They need some form of recognition, without it it becomes very hard for them to perform. They love people looking up to them and they love playing the role of teacher. It’s like they seek to compensate their inner uncertainties that way: they essentially feel very unsure about their abilities and by playing the role of teacher they sort of seek to overcome that defect. They will usually on the surface strongly believe in their ability to teach others until you get into them deeper and find the uncertainty that actually drives this attitude. Gemini’s will be great as psychologists, psychiatrists, any job that requires thinking and has some sort of teacher quality or functionality attached to it.

The Gemini in love

To a Gemini love is all play. He seeks a partner that believes in his capacities as a teacher, someone to morally train into a perfect companion. Their ideal form of relationships is sort of the eternal teenage flirt, the start of a relationship. The gravity of commitment doesn’t resonate well with them, once a relationship loses its playfulness it loses the interest of the Gemini. Because of this the Gemini will feel best with partners that are not looking for too deep connections, since it can’t handle heavy and deep connections. Water signs don’t combine well with a gemini at all. The Gemini will usually look for someone who he can impress with his psychoanalyzing capacities.

60 degree relations:

60 degree relations are the most common for relationships. These are the ‘good friends’ sort of relationships, that is often the best and most logical basis for long term commitment. For a Gemini these are:

* Aries: 23 March – 23 April

These two combine rather well. The Aries pretty much wants uncomplicated simplicity and fun, the Gemini wants an uncomplicated partner to escape the chaos in his head. The Aries will take the Gemini out of his head and into the world of action. The Gemini, on the other hand, can show the Aries there is more than just action, that there is a world inside of his head too. The start of fire and the start of air together will usually make a playful and loving pair, even though the relation probably benefits the Aries more than it does the Gemini, since the action element doesn’t actually solve the Gemini’s essential problem: it is a diversion rather than a solution.

* Leo (23 july – 23 August)

The playfulness of the Leo and the playfulness of the Gemini combine well. The Leo understands the drive of the gemini, to be a teacher to others, but he’s not very keen on the moralistic aspect of the Gemini’s teachings since the Leo’s essentially seeks Justice not moralism and he is aware that this justice is not some sort of psychological game. In the long run, therefore, the Leo will dominate the Gemini and this will create a tension the Gemini can’t handle very well. But as long as the Lion can stand being psycho analysed every now and then these two will get along fine, and the Justice parametre will actually be of benifit to the Gemini in the sense that he can learn morality without reflection doesn’t mean anything.

120 degree relationships

These are relationships within the same element. These relationships tend to be very intense and intimate. They are in fact stronger than the 60 degree relations but harder to maintain because of their intensity.  Once a proper balance is found they will likely, however, last forever, at least in the heart atmosphere. For a Gemini these are:

* Aquarius (23 januar – 23 februar)

These two will understand each other well because they are both purely mental signs. However, in a relationship, the Aquarius will completely dominate the Gemini. The Gemini in reality has not much to offer the Aquarius: he is the last stage and total control of air, a sophisticated thinker, and the uncontrolled and sponatneous outbursts of the Gemini will perhaps amuse him at first but sooner or later it will start to seriously irritate him. As Air is essentially a cold element there also is not too much warmth in this combination, so even if the combination is somehow succesfull it will be a rather cold, aloof and formal relationship based on thought patterns and ideas. There is a risk the Gemini will totally idolize the Aquarius and an unhealthy relationship could result.

* Libra (23 September – 23 Oktober)

Somewhat more perspective here than the relation with the Aquarius. These two will understand each other well but they both suffer from the same kind of mental imbalance, which will perhaps fascinate the both of them. They might see each other as perfect companions for this reason: they see their essential problem reflected in the other. But the problem is the solution will be a different one to each of them: the formula of Libra is different than the Formula of Gemini. In the long run the diplomatic Libra will grow tired of the outbursts of the Gemini, and he will realize the apparant simularity is not at all as simular as he first thought. A Libra seeks balance, a Gemini seeks union. The Libra is essentially much more independant than the Gemini, and this might evoke jealousy in the Gemini who would actually really rather want to be that way.

Opposite relationship

One hears often that ‘opposites attract’ and sometimes the opposite relation can be very good, since these signs can be sort of complimentary. In case of Gemini the opposite sign is:

Sagittarius (23 November – 23 December)

Oh, the two most playful signs in the Zodiac combined! What a sight that must be at start, but the problems will soon manifest since these signs are essentially incombinable. The late fire of Sagittarius will be extremely bored with the psycho-babble of the Gemini: the Sagittarius does not want to be explained at all, he is the mysterious hunter that will never reveal his true identity. Therefore this relation will almost always result in power games and the Gemini has no chance of winning those. These two share a certain shizophrenic formula: but where in the Gemini this formula is open and visible, in Sagittarius its hidden and invisible. One of the best areas in this relationship is sex: they share the same sort of playful need of experimentation, just the Sagitarius will often wish the Gemini will shut up in bed. The Gemini has no essential grip on the Sagittarius and the Sagittarius really needs dreams to chase: which is something the Gemini is not very good at providing: Gemini’s analyse, they don’t dream much. I don’t think this relation has much chance in the long run, but the start of it might be very intense and promising.
