Leo is the Fifth sign in the wheel of the Tarot and he represents the full bloom of the midsummer, the most egocentric point in the Midheaven and the full consciousness that comes with that position. In the Tarot the Leo card is Justice, or Lust in the Crowley-Harris pack. Leo is the second fire sign and he represents the full bloom of that element, and the control over that element – where in Aries the person is still controlled by his actions the Lion is the opposite: he fully controls his won actions and therefore needs Justice to decide where to apply them. For that reason Lions are always looking for the right sense of Justice, even though they might not have the intellectual capacities to fully understand it; to a Lion Justice and Honor are very tied up.

The Lion is always somewhat of a dictator. The benovalent dictator, mind you, not a small and petty one. Since he has a fair sense of Justice he is somewhat fit to rule, but his great fault is that he just can’t let go of the strings – he has to orchestrate everything from start to end. Especially female lions are bad in that regard: they will have a very hard time not sticking their lion noses everywhere it doesn’t belong. They really can’t help themselves in this regard: the Lion feels it is his duty to be of assitence to those lower to him. He will only potentially back off when he somehow is convinced of your superiority over him but it’s way hard to convince a Lion of anything such since he regards himzelf pretty much as the top of the food chain.

Lions can be recognized by several features. One of them is their dominant energy, another is their weird hair! Lots of lions have weird, extravagant hair, like the animal itself. They can also be recognized by their phenomenal lust for life, light-heartedness and humor. The lions sense of humor is omnivorous. He will often be a prankster that plays practical jokes to a fictive audience. The lion is also a great fighter, but fighting to him is something he does for fun. He isn’t a dirty fighter like the scorpion, he takes every fight, be it intellectual or otherwise, as light hearted as he takes anything else. That’s why a scorpion won’t stand much chance against a lion: their dirty fighting and hellish seriousness doesn’t affect the lion much.

The lion also has enormous pride. Pride is another of his great faults. He just can’t involve himself in things that would hurt his pride, and that’s not always a good thing. If you somehow hurt his pride there’s a chance you will never hear from him again, or, even worse, he will hunt you with attacks until he feels satisfied about his superiority. Lions, once angered, are the most stern opponents from the Zodiac and they never really give up once they have set a certain goal in their mind. On the downside, there is some serious lazyness in every lion, but it is not a laziness of ambitions its the laziness of the hot summer day, usually followed by a real hunting spectacle.

The career of a lion

The lion must be in charge. It doesn’t matter how or what, but he must feel he is in charge. If he cant be in charge he will prefer to sit at home, unemployed. He will join the army but he wants to be a general immediately. Lions make great strategists, they are not too good for managing positions usually because they are far too egocentric and controlling for that position. They do best as head of their own company, they love freedom and independence and don’t care much for money unless it comes easily.

The Lion in love:

Love to a lion is largely a prey he can fool around with. He will search out a ‘victim’ and do whatever it takes to get her into bed and finish her off like the big cat finishes off a mouse. He is however very romantic and will never really hurt his prey, in fact the lion will give extraordinary attention to whomever he fancies as a lover at that moment. The hard thing with lions is to keep them interested. They get bored easily, since they are a fire sign, and the one thing they constantly need is adoration and compliments. A lion needs to be adored. When he feels this adoration is lacking he will move on to another partner.

60 degree relations:

60 degree relations are the most common for relationships. These are the ‘good friends’ sort of relationships, that is often the best and most logical basis for long term commitment. For a Lion these are:

* Gemini (23 May- 23 June)

The playfulness of the Leo and the playfulness of the Gemini combine well. The Leo understands the drive of the Gemini, to be a teacher to others, but he’s not very keen on the moralistic aspect of the Gemini’s teachings since the Leo’s essentially seeks Justice not moralism and he is aware that this justice is not some sort of psychological game. In the long run, therefore, the Leo will dominate the Gemini and this will create a tension the Gemini can’t handle very well. But as long as the Lion can stand being psycho analysed every now and then these two will get along fine, and the Justice parameter will actually be of benefit to the Gemini in the sense that he can learn morality without reflection doesn’t mean anything.

* Libra (23 September – 23 October)

This is one of the best combinations in the pack. The fiery lion and the elegant, diplomatic Libra compliment each other well. The air of Libra feeds the fire of Leo, and her diplomatic abilities are good to sense when and where the Lion needs his daily compliment. The Libra by nature is not very dominant so the Lion will possibly completely dominate him or her but since the Libra is a quite uncertain sign with not much spine he or she will likely appreciate that. This is the combination of the Sun and Venus – good for lasting relations as long as Venus keeps reflecting the nature of the sun and doesn’t cloud itself in doubts too much.

120 degree relationships

These are relationships within the same element. These relationships tend to be very intense and intimate. They are in fact stronger than the 60 degree relations but harder to maintain because of their intensity.  Once a proper balance is found they will likely, however, last forever, at least in the heart atmosphere. For a Lion these are:

* Aries (23 March – 23 April)

Leo and Aries are both not very complicated signs and they can provide each other in their true needs. Leo wants attention, flattery, a fight for justice. Aries wants honor, directness, action. These things harmonize well with each other and the Lion understands and appreciates the Aries need of honor and directness. A Lion is also direct, and hardly ever plays any hidden power games. These two understand each other very well. There is potential for conflict, since both are fire signs, but these conflicts will be rather simple and short lasting. This carries the seed for a great relationship. It will be a very active couple, with some frequent clashes but all in good spirit.

Sagittarius (23 November – 23 December)

Oh, now here we have some serious temptation. The solar Lion and the dominant, Jupiterian Sagittarius. Their flirts will be phenomenal, but on an essential level, beyond the powerful sexuality they evoke in each other, they will also be essentially incompatible and they usually know that. There is a chance for this relation to really work, but it requires concessions and both signs are usually not too keen on making those. The Sagittarius will play power games with the Lion and is perhaps the only sign in the Zodiac better at those games than the Lion is. At some point the Lion will grow very tired of these games, since they essentially lack integrity, and the relationship might turn ugly and sado-masochistic after that point is reached. It is a harder constellation for a long lasting relation but a very good one for a hell of a flirt.

Opposite relationship

One hears often that ‘opposites attract’ and sometimes the opposite relation can be very good, since these signs can be sort of complimentary. In case of Lion the opposite sign is:

* Aquarius (23 Januar – 23 Februar)

This is a challenging combination, but not a generally easy one either. The Aquarius is a very mental, aloof, intellectual sign that essentially sees through the ego-defects of the Lion so he will have problems taking the Lion serious. The Lion senses that and it hurts his pride. Also the Aquarius isn’t sexually challenging enough to the Lion, who looks for more than intellectual friendship in a relation and wants to dominate the Aquarius which is very hard with such an aloof sign. I don’t see this combination as workable unless the Aquarius has lots of planets in water and fire signs.

The sexual Lion:

Sex is like the lions main purpose of life. It’s also his greatest hobby. Sex! The lion is probably, besides scorpio, the most horny sign in the Zodiac. They can have sex anywahere anytime, any way you want it. They will usually be dominating and will have a problem ‘letting go’ which sometimes, especially in women, results in the ‘difficult orgasm’ syndrome. Also some female lions are rather masochistic in bed since they are essentially very tired of their dominant position and want the complete opposite when it comes to sex.
