Libra is the seventh sign in the astrological wheel and it represents the balancing of the top-heavy blooming universal plant before it begins its demise in scorpio. The Sign Libra is all about balance and because of that, the Libra is probably the most unbalanced person you will ever encounter. It is only the most high forms of Libra that will be actually succesful in finding this inner balance in their lives, most Libra’s will rather be avatars of imbalance during their existence. They are always seeking to unite things that don’t fit together, purely to see if that combination will result in the balance they long for. Libra is the second air sign and it is a strictly mental sign whose prime characteristics are diplomacy, development of aesthetics and the mental dependency on others. In Astrology the 7th house is usually the house of Marriage.
I believe there is not a single sign in the Zodiaqc for whom it is more problematic to learn to be alone than the Libra. They simply can’t function on their own. They constantly need reflection of their ideas by others and will constantly look for partners that, to the outside world, seem a rather odd choice. But any sort of idea of imbalance disturbs the Libra, it’s like they want to prove to themselves that imbalance is an illusion so they choose partners that are way old, way you, or in another way seemingly unfit.
At heart Libra, as an air sign, is essentially a cold sign. They often seem calculative and will often be known to the outside world as lovely persons, because they exploit their diplomatic skills to the maximum. Their prime motivation, however, is one of demasking: they are always trying to prove to themselves that the reality in their head is more real than the reality outside, while its pretty obvious to the rest of the world the two are basically the same. We perceive the world by our thoughts and feelings, so whatever the world seems like is a pretty good reflection of our internal state of affairs.
The Libra feels he must balance everything. For that reason they are utterly allergic to more heavy forms of criticism. It’s like you present an element to them that will take them years and years to balance out. They will get very upset with such criticism for this reason: they simply can’t cope with any such heaviness. The Libra is a dancer, a balancer on a cord: disturb him and he will fall into depression and probably behave like a primal idiot.
The planet ruling Libra is venus, which is why the entire life of a Libra will be centered around his relationships. A Libra that is not in a relationship feels utterly useless. They will principally have relationships with anything that presents itself to them as necissary: their curiosity ‘can i balance this out’ is always greater than their prime intuition; whether or not ‘someone fits them’ is not very important in their mind.
The career of a Libra
A naturally born diplomat, the Libra will feel great in any environment that requires pleasant interaction with people, flirting, or aesthetic arrangements. They do not make great managers usually, precisely because of their tendency to be imbalanced, and they don’t have a lot of control over their own thoughts. They will make great diplomats, social workers, and artists as long as such doesn’t require great discipline or solitude which are things Libra’s aren’t good at at all.
The Libra in love
Love to a Libra is a strictly mental phenomenon and to them its all about give and take. They are primarily interested in anything that pleases their aesthetic senses and they are quite sensitive to things like social status. They will therefore quite often choose a relationship for its convenience: their idea of love is pretty practical – they always calculate what their advantage from an affair is or they rash into affairs without any thought about the why and how, spellbound by mental illusions. Once someone ‘crosses the line’ in way of presenting itself as a dangerous element to their makeup the Libra will simply ignore this person, often likely for the rest of his life.
60 degree relations:
60 degree relations are the most common for relationships. These are the ‘good friends’ sort of relationships, that is often the best and most logical basis for long term commitment. For a Libra these are:
* Leo (23 july – 23 August)
This is one of the best combinations in the pack. The fiery lion and the elegant, diplomatic Libra compliment each other well. The air of Libra feeds the fire of Leo, and her diplomatic abilities are good to sense when and where the Lion needs his daily compliment. The Libra by nature is not very dominant so the Lion will possibly completely dominate him or her but since the Libra is a quite uncertain sign with not much spine he or she will likely appreciate that. This is the combination of the Sun and Venus – good for lasting relations as long as Venus keeps reflecting the nature of the sun and doesn’t cloud itself in doubts too much.
* Sagittarius (23 November – 23 December)
A promising combination, but the essential problem here is that both these signs are rather unstable and that Jupiter and Venus aren’t too well fit for each other. The Sagittarius will completely dominate the Libra, and both are quite promiscuous and flirty, which will result in a rather unstable relationship unless we are dealing with a Sagittarius who is not jealous, which will be a freak of nature, if one exists. The two do however have some basic things in common, like an interest in socializing and an interest in philosophy and art, even though the Libra is mostly into the aesthetic sides of those. As such these two could be good friends and also good lovers if the elements balance themselves out well.
120 degree relationships
These are relationships within the same element. These relationships tend to be very intense and intimate. They are in fact stronger than the 60 degree relations but harder to maintain because of their intensity. Once a proper balance is found they will likely, however, last forever, at least in the heart atmosphere. For a Libra these are:
* Gemini (23 May – 23 June)
These two will understand each other well but they both suffer from the same kind of mental imbalance, which will perhaps fascinate the both of them. They might see each other as perfect companions for this reason: they see their essential problem reflected in the other. But the problem is the solution will be a different one to each of them: the formula of Libra is different than the Formula of Gemini. In the long run the diplomatic Libra will grow tired of the outbursts of the Gemini, and he will realize the apparant simularity is not at all as simular as he first thought. A Libra seeks balance, a Gemini seeks union. The Libra is essentially much more independant than the Gemini, and this might evoke jealousy in the Gemini who would actually really rather want to be that way.
* Aquarius (23 Januar – 23 Februar)
The relation with the more stable Aquarius might be very profitable to the Libra. The Aquarius is most more likely to have mastered his mind and the Libra can learn a lot from him about the ways of thought and how to balance them. There is however an essential imbalance in this relationship: The Aquarius simply cannot learn much from the Libra, who sort of represents an earlier stage of himself, and as such he might after some time simply get disinterested in this relationship. The Aquarius, however, is essentially looking for the higher forms of friendship and is not very interested in classic relationship forms. Therefore these two, if they become good friends, might also last a very long time as a couple, even though their relationship will be very mental, being both air signs, and sort of cold for that reason.
Opposite relationship
One hears often that ‘opposites attract’ and sometimes the opposite relation can be very good, since these signs can be sort of complimentary. In case of Libra the opposite sign is:
* Aries (23 March – 23 April)
In this case I do not believe this combination will ever really work. The flip-flopping, unstable and doubtfull Libra will drive the Aries absolutely nuts, while the simplicity of Aries will evoke contempt in the aesthetic Libra that appreciates the finer things in life. Libra is a diplomatic sign and the Aries sense of diplomacy is ‘do it, do it now!’. This will rarely grow into a stable realtionship and will likely not be a very fullfilling one, even though the Aries will be fascinated by a type of beayty he can’t grasp and the Libra will try escape his own mental complexes though.
The Libra in sex:
The Libra is flexible and easy to manipulate. They are for that reason flexible lovers but with not much backbone to give serious counter-pressure against dominion, which makes them a little boring for people who do not like stagnant roles. As most air signs they are not primarily sexual beings, even they might seem very beautiful and tempting. Their sexual taste will be aesthetic and they will usually enjoy the flirting part of intercourse the most.
