In 1969 maakte Robert Smithson en Nancy Holt ‘Eastcoast/Westcoast’ een collaboratieve film waarin ze op humoristische wijze stereotype rollen aannemen van kunstopvattingen van de tijd, en die daarbij ook impliciet becommentarieren

Holt assumes the role of an intellectual conceptual artist from New York, while Smithson plays the laid back Californian driven by feelings and instinct. Their deadpan exchange ironically lays bare the limitations and contradictions of both sides in the debate.

Vanessa Place en Robert Fitterman hebben nu een hedendaagse versie deze film gemaakt waarin ze de receptie van hun pamflet Notes on Conceptualisms bespreken. De interpretatie is een exacte kopie van het origineel, al zijn Place en Fitterman wel overtuigender in hun rollen als intellectueel / leeghoofd.
